Data you can trust. Methodology you can verify.
Every number we surface — BSR rank, search volume, price history, revenue estimate — has a source, a refresh cadence, and a known margin of error. This page documents exactly where the data comes from, how frequently it updates, and what its limitations are.
Data Sources
We pull from three primary, independently operated data pipelines — never a single point of failure.
Amazon SP-API (Official)
We are a certified Amazon Selling Partner API integration. Product catalog, search volume, keyword rankings, buy box data, review counts, and seller inventory signals come directly from Amazon's official API under our registered developer credentials. This data carries Amazon's own quality guarantees.
Certified SP-API PartnerKeepa Data Feed
Historical BSR trends, price history, and long-run sales rank data are enriched through the Keepa API — the industry's most trusted independent ASIN tracking network, tracking 1B+ ASINs since 2013. This gives us 5+ years of time-series data per product, enabling BSR seasonality detection and anomaly filtering.
Keepa API IntegrationProprietary Index
Category opportunity scores, niche competition indices, and cross-marketplace trend signals are generated by our own processing pipeline. These composite scores combine SP-API signals, Keepa trends, and category-level sell-through rates, recalculated daily. Every composite metric displays its component inputs so you can audit the logic yourself.
Daily recalculationData Freshness Schedule
Different data types have different update cadences. Below is the exact schedule we commit to.
| Data type | Update frequency | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product title, price, images | ↻ Every 2 hours | SP-API | Direct API pull, no cache |
| BSR rank (Best Seller Rank) | ↻ Every 1–4 hours | Keepa | Keepa snapshot cadence |
| Price history (90d / 1y / 5y) | ↻ Continuous | Keepa | Historical archive, 2013+ |
| Review count & rating | ↻ Every 6 hours | SP-API | Counts only, not text |
| Search volume (keyword) | ↻ Weekly | SP-API | 30-day rolling estimate |
| Keyword ranking (ASIN position) | ↻ Daily | SP-API | Organic + sponsored split |
| Niche / category opportunity score | ↻ Daily | Proprietary | Composite of 8 signals |
| Walmart / TikTok / Etsy data | ↻ 12–24 hours | Platform APIs | No historical BSR equivalent |
Accuracy & Validation
Our validation pipeline cross-references multiple sources before surfacing any figure.
SP-API Data: 99%+ Accuracy
Direct SP-API fields (ASIN title, price, review count, buybox status) carry Amazon's own accuracy guarantees. We do not transform these — they are passed through verbatim and timestamped at fetch time.
BSR Trends: ±5% Typical Variance
BSR is a relative rank that Amazon recalculates continuously. Our Keepa-powered snapshots capture rank at 1–4 hour intervals. Between snapshots, the displayed value may lag by up to 4 hours. For trend analysis (30d/90d/1y views), this lag is statistically insignificant.
Sales Estimates: Algorithmic, Not Exact
We do not have access to Amazon seller revenue data. Monthly sales estimates are derived from BSR-to-sales-velocity models trained on category-level sell-through patterns. Typical margin of error: ±20–35% for mid-range ASINs; wider for new or niche listings with sparse BSR history. We show confidence bands on every estimate.
Coverage & Scope
What is — and isn't — in the dataset.
Known Limitations
We believe that documented limitations are more trustworthy than hidden ones. Here is what we cannot — or do not — do.
No seller-level revenue data — Amazon does not expose actual revenue figures via SP-API. All revenue estimates are models.
Thinner data in new categories — Categories launched after 2022 have shorter BSR history, reducing trend confidence.
Keyword search volumes are estimates — Exact search volumes are not published by Amazon. Our figures are SP-API search term report extrapolations, with ±30% variance typical.
Non-Amazon marketplaces use different pipelines — Walmart, TikTok Shop, and Etsy data come from platform-specific APIs with lower update frequency (12–24h) and no historical BSR equivalent.
Listings with <30 days history may have incomplete signals — ASIN-level trend data requires sufficient observation window for reliable pattern detection.
