Why Amazon Keyword Research is Different from Google SEO
On Google, you optimize for intent. On Amazon, you optimize for purchase signals. Keywords that drive clicks on Google won't necessarily drive sales on Amazon — and vice versa.
Amazon's A9 and A10 algorithms weigh:
- Sales velocity — products that convert well rank higher
- Keyword relevance — does the listing text match the search query?
- Session-to-order ratio — how often do page visits become purchases?
Step 1: Seed Keywords
Start with 5–10 descriptive phrases for your product. Include:
- The product category term ("stainless steel water bottle")
- The primary use case ("leak-proof gym water bottle")
- Size or specification ("32oz insulated water bottle")
Step 2: Reverse ASIN (KeySpy)
Enter your top 3–5 competitors' ASINs into niche.ltd KeySpy. You'll see every keyword they rank for — organic and sponsored — with search volume, difficulty and rank.
Look for keywords where:
- Search volume is >500/month
- Competitor rank is 10–30 (they rank but not on page 1)
- Your listing can outrank them (check review count and listing quality)
Step 3: Keyword Gap Analysis
Compare your top competitor's keywords against your current listing. Any keyword they rank for that you don't have in your listing is a gap. In KeySpy, you can filter by "competitor ranks, you don't."
Step 4: Backend Keywords
Amazon provides 250 bytes of backend keyword space (hidden from buyers). Use this for:
- Misspellings of your main keywords
- Synonyms and regional variations
- Long-tail phrases that don't fit naturally in your title/bullets
Do not repeat keywords already in your title or bullets — Amazon ignores duplicates in backend keywords.
Step 5: Send to ScribeAI
In niche.ltd, select the keywords you want to target in KeySpy and click Send to ScribeAI. ScribeAI generates an optimized title, bullets and description that naturally incorporates all selected keywords with proper density.
Keyword Priority Ranking
Score each keyword as: (search volume × conversion probability) ÷ difficulty. Target high-score keywords in your title; medium-score in bullets; low-score in backend.
